Choosing the right mouse repellent

Before getting into the best type of mouse repellent it's important to know the difference between mouse repellants and mouse traps. Mouse repellents are used to keep mice away where as mouse traps are used to physically trap the mouse that have already entered your home. The assumption with repellents is that you want to avoid mice entering your domain. So lets get started.
Choose the type of repellent based on your environment:

- repellents may be poisonous for pets and small animals
- the area that needs to be protected i.e. home or garage
Powder Repellent
How it works:
Pet friendly powder mouse repellents are used by making an odor that signals danger to mice and other similar rodents. Since most of them are made from natural ingredients you don't have to worry about harming pets or children.
Where to use:
You're best using powder repellents around the house or garden as it's safe for plants as well. Ultrasonic Repellents
How it works:
Ultrasonic Repellents emit a high pitch noise that irritates mice and other rodents. Certain ultrasonic repellents will emit different types of noises so that the mice can't get used to it, which can happen over time. These type of repellents require batteries or can be plugged into the wall. It's important to know that you shouldn't use ultrasonic repellents by itself rather use it in combination with other products such as repellent sprays or powder. A common technique is to have the ultrasonic repellent in certain areas so that mice can be herded towards mouse traps.
Where to use:
Common areas to use Ultrasonic Repellents are in garages, basements, cottages and kitchen. Keep in mind that pets can be affected by this device as it's sensitive to their ears. Humans should not be able to hear the device.
Repellent Spray
How it works:
Similar to powder repellents, the spray is harmless to animals and humans. It has a specific odor to it that scares rodents away. This includes not only mice but rats, squirrels, and moles.
Where to use:
It's recommended to use the sprays around the home, garage. If you are experiencing a mouse infestation then it's best to use this in combination with mouse traps.
Fox Urine Powder Repellent

Fox urine powder repellent imitates the smell of of animals that are the natural predators of mice. It's specially formulated so that it won't smell to humans but can be sensed by mice.
